The Suva City Council hosted a morning tea at the Civic Centre for the women of Suva and Lami Town Council in recognition of International Women’s Day. The Regional Director of the Common Wealth Local Government Forum, Ms. Karibati Taoabak was the chief guest at the event.
The Chairman of Suva City Council, Mr. Isikeli Tikoduadua, in his speech, recognized the Council’s progress in bringing about equality in the workforce and motivated the women to challenge the status quo and bring about equality and inclusiveness at the Suva City Council and in the community.
The Council also handed over a cheque of $630.00 to the Fiji Cancer Society to show solidarity and support for the great work of the organization in advocating Cancer Prevention.
The celebration of International Women’s Day is an important occasion and the Council shows acknowledgement and appreciation of the immense contributions that Women play in all spheres of society.
