TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE AT SUVA BUS STAND
February 11, 2025The Suva City Council (SCC) wishes to inform the public that it is actively working with the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to address the current condition of the Suva Bus Stand.
This situation is temporary, as ongoing infrastructure repair and upgrade works are being carried out to improve the overall condition of the bus stand. SCC and FRA have been working closely to ensure these improvements are completed as efficiently as possible while minimizing disruption to public transport services.
For the past few weeks, FRA has been conducting repair works between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, once the bus stand has been cleared of buses and commuters. This approach allows contractors to work safely and efficiently while ensuring that daytime public transport operations remain unaffected.
To address immediate accessibility concerns, FRA has temporarily covered the entrance of the bus stand with loose gravel. This measure provides short-term relief while the project moves toward the tar-sealing phase. However, due to recent heavy rainfall in the Suva area, the road surface has been affected, causing overnight potholes to form. SCC and FRA continue to closely monitor the situation and are committed to ensuring that necessary repairs and maintenance are carried out promptly.
The potholes that were widely circulated on social media following the recent heavy downpour have already been repaired by FRA contractors. Additionally, SCC engineers have conducted thorough inspections and confirmed that the work meets the required standards.
The SCC and FRA anticipate significant improvements to the bus stand conditions as repair works progress over the coming weeks. Once completed, these upgrades will enhance the durability, accessibility, and safety of the area for all public transport users.
The Council understands that these necessary upgrades may cause temporary inconvenience and sincerely apologize for any disruption experienced by bus operators, commuters, and the general public.
