TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE AT SUVA BUS STAND
February 11, 2025The Suva City Council (SCC) is issuing a stern warning to the general public regarding the unauthorized use of Albert Park, which remains closed for essential maintenance. Despite multiple signs and notices informing the public of the Park’s closure, some individuals continue to ignore these warnings, posing safety risks and delaying the progress of restoration work.
Albert Park was temporarily closed in 2024 to facilitate comprehensive maintenance, including soil rehabilitation and ground testing. The restoration efforts are designed to ensure the park meets high-quality playing standards for future public use.
Key restoration works include:
- Ground testing and soil treatment to replenish lost nutrients.
- Re-leveling of the playing surface to enhance durability.
- Turf maintenance and irrigation improvements to support healthy grass growth.
SCC Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Tevita Boseiwaqa has emphasized that continued trespassing on the park will lead to enforcement actions, including potential penalties for non-compliance.
“Individuals who continue to trespass on Albert Park despite clear closure notices will face enforcement actions. Unauthorized use not only disrupts the maintenance work but also delays the park’s restoration. The Council will take necessary measures, including potential penalties, to ensure compliance and protect the integrity of the grounds,” said Mr. Boseiwaqa.
Mr. Boseiwaqa has urged residents, sports teams, and recreational groups to fully cooperate by avoiding the use of Albert Park until an official reopening is announced.
“The success of this maintenance work depends on the public’s support and adherence to the closure notice. The Council understands that Albert Park is a popular spot but its long-term sustainability relies on this restoration process and we kindly ask for patience and cooperation to ensure that when the park reopens, it meets the highest standards for public use,” he added.
The Council will continue to monitor compliance and take necessary actions to prevent further disruptions to the maintenance process.
