SCC ADDRESSES CONCERNS REGARDING MISUSE OF PUBLIC SEATING ALONG TERRY WALK
January 9, 2025Non-collection of Green Waste Issue Solved
January 14, 2025The Suva City Council (SCC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government is taking a proactive step to address the growing concerns regarding street dwellers in the City.
With an increasing number of individuals using Suva’s streets as places to sleep, the SCC recognizes the need for immediate action and long-term solutions. This initiative aligns with the Council’s goal of ensuring a clean, safe, and inclusive city for all.
SCC Acting CEO Mr. Tevita Boseiwaqa said the situation is multifaceted and requires the engagement of key stakeholders such as the Fiji Police Force and the Ministry of Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation/Department of Social Welfare, to find an effective solution.
“The rising number of street dwellers is a concern for us and the Council is fully committed to working with key stakeholders to address this issue comprehensively. To maintain safety and order, SCC enforcement agents regularly patrol the city to ensure that street dwellers do not disrupt the flow of daily activities for commuters and residents. However, the Council’s jurisdiction is limited in certain areas, and where necessary, the Fiji Police Force, the Ministry of Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation, and the Ministry of Youth & Sports will step in to provide further assistance,” he added.
