COUNCIL RINGS IN THE NEW YEAR WITH GRATITUDE AND HOPE FOR 2025

January 6, 2025The Suva City Council (SCC) is placing staff welfare and development at the forefront with the introduction of transformative policies designed to benefit employees and recognize their invaluable contributions to Suva’s growth and vibrancy. These initiatives reinforce the Council’s position as an employer of choice while fostering a supportive and progressive workplace.
Under the guidance of the Special Administrators, the Council with the advice and concurrence of the Minister of Local Government, has approved the following measures:
- Sick Leave Bonus – Acknowledging employees’ commitment by providing a payout for unused sick leave. This payout was made on 23rd December 2024.
- 5% COLA Payments – Cost-of-living adjustments will be disbursed in the following instalments;
- Two percent (2%) to be paid by 3rd January 2025
- One percent (1%) to be paid by 28th January 2025
- Two percent (2%) to be paid by 17th April 2025
- Regularisation of Acting Positions – Employees in continuous acting roles for six months or more as of December 31, 2024, will be confirmed in these positions effective January 1, 2025.
- Tenureship Appointments Below CEO Level – Permanent tenure will replace contractual arrangements for all staff except the CEO, whose position will remain on a four-year contract.
SCC Special Administrator Chairman and Acting CEO, Mr. Tevita Boseiwaqa, commended the dedication of SCC staff, emphasizing their role in Suva’s progress.

The Council is also set to implement an Annual Performance Assessment Framework to promote excellence and accountability. This system will evaluate staff performance and discipline, ensuring consistent service standards.
