TRASH BOOM INSTALLED AT NABUKALOU CREEK
February 26, 2025The Suva City Council (SCC) remains committed to ensuring public safety as rehabilitation works continue at the Suva Bus Stand. Recent changes and increased traffic congestion have raised concerns, prompting the Council to strengthen safety measures and regulations.
SCC Acting CEO Mr. Tevita Boseiwaqa reassured the public that the Council has implemented several precautionary measures to mitigate risks and improve pedestrian and vehicle movement.
“The temporary changes have been a challenge, but we have successfully managed to control the situation. However, despite the measures in place, some individuals continue to disregard these rules and fail to use designated pedestrian crossings, which poses a serious safety risk. The Council has enforcement officers stationed at key locations within the bus stand to monitor and enforce traffic and pedestrian regulations. While people are still adjusting to the new traffic flow, the Council has placed clear signage for guidance,” Mr. Boseiwaqa said.
In addition, the SCC will continue to conduct public awareness campaigns to reinforce safety measures and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Mr. Boseiwaqa urges the public and road users to follow designated routes, use proper crossings, and cooperate with enforcement officers to prevent any casualties.
Phase 2 of the rehabilitation works has begun, and progress continues at the Suva Bus Stand.
