January 6, 2025The Suva City Council (SCC) Special Administrators, Management, and Staff extend their warmest New Year wishes to all ratepayers, businesses, residents, staff, and esteemed sponsors as we welcome the dawn of 2025.
With the arrival of a new year, the Council looks back with pride on the achievements of 2024, which saw transformative growth and exciting opportunities for collaboration and looks forward to another year of progress and partnership.
SCC Chairman Mr. Tevita Boseiwaqa expressed his gratitude and pride in the milestones reached in 2024.
“This past year provided various opportunities for the Council to partner with organizations such as international agencies, local NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), local authorities, youth groups and the local communities. We worked together to bring positive change to Suva. Namely the successful opening of Ratu Sukuna Park, the revival of the iconic Miss Hibiscus Festival, and the upgrade of the Nasese Foreshore. These initiatives greatly contributed to the cultural vibrancy and overall beauty of our city,” Mr. Boseiwaqa said.
The opening of Ratu Sukuna Park provides a green space, not only as a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, but it creates a therapeutic environment for our citizens, outdoor meeting place for residents and visitors alike. It also serves as a central location for community gatherings, events, and recreational activities.
Mr,Boseiwaqa adds that the upgraded park pays tribute to the legacy of Ratu Sir Josefa Lalabalavu Vanayaliyali Sukuna.
The return of the Miss Hibiscus Festival – the 68th anniversary of the premier festival of the South Pacific – also marked a milestone for Suva. This iconic event, which had been on hiatus for a number of years, was revived with great success, attracting regional attention and providing a platform for local talent.
“The Miss Hibiscus Festival is more than just a beauty pageant; it is a celebration of Suva’s cultural diversity and a testament to the strength of our community over the years,” Mr. Boseiwaqa added.
Mr. Boseiwaqa emphasized the Council’s commitment to building a sustainable, thriving and vibrant Suva that benefits all who live, work, and visit the city through collaboration with all stakeholders.
The Council would, therefore, like to acknowledge and thank all those who have contributed to the development, cleanliness and beauty of Suva City and look forward to continuing this spirit of collaboration and teamwork in 2025.
