SCC TO ADDRESS STREET DWELLERS CONCERN
January 13, 2025The Suva City Council (SCC) is aware of the concerns raised by residents of Cunningham Stage 2 regarding the delay in collecting green waste and white goods over the past two months. SCC would like to clarify that green waste collection is once a month while white goods collections are on a quarterly basis.
However, incidents of people disposing of waste in areas outside their residences have likely contributed to the buildup of rubbish in some locations and delays in collection in others.
SCC Acting CEO Mr. Tevita Boseiwaqa understands the frustration this has caused and assures residents that the matter is being addressed.
Mr. Boseiwaqa said, “The SCC recognizes the inconvenience caused by this delay and sincerely apologizes to the residents of Cunningham. The SCC health team has confirmed that the waste will be collected today, and we are intensifying efforts to address illegal dumping, with penalties to be enforced on those caught. The Council is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore the collection process to its regular schedule.”
SCC remains committed to ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for all residents and will continue promptly and effectively addressing any concerns.
