September 7, 2024The Suva City Council is putting forward stringent measures aimed at elevating the beauty of the Miss Hibiscus festival beyond the pageantry and ensuring a litter-free environment throughout the event.
In a concerted effort to maintain the festival’s charm and cleanliness, the Council is urging the public to be vigilant in their environmental stewardship.
Suva City Council Acting CEO Mr.Tevita Boseiwaqa is encouraging attendees of the Festival to dispose of rubbish responsibly and support the initiative to keep the festival village and its surroundings pristine.
Boseiwaqa also emphasized the importance of collective responsibility: “It is crucial that we all take part in looking after the festival village and its surroundings. By working together, we can enhance the festival experience and preserve the beauty of our environment for everyone to enjoy.”
Boseiwaqa added offenders will be issued a spot fine as per the Litter Act 2008 if found not following this instructions.
“To uphold the cleanliness and aesthetic integrity of the festival, the council is implementing a strict policy regarding littering, and effective immediately, a fine will be imposed. This measure is aimed at discouraging littering and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment for all attendees. We kindly ask for your cooperation in disposing of waste in the designated bins and adhering to Council health & safety standards. Together, we can maintain the beauty and cleanliness for everyone’s enjoyment and well-being,” he added.
The Council appreciates the community’s cooperation and looks forward to a successful and environmentally conscious festival.
