September 4, 2024The Suva City Council is addressing a troubling increase in unauthorized rubbish disposal within the city, particularly from individuals known as “Drop and Go” rubbish bandits.
This issue was brought to light by a concerned shop owner on Nabua Road, who reported significant amounts of garbage being dumped in front of their business after hours.
In response to this growing problem, Suva City Council Acting CEO Mr Tevita Boseiwaqa said the Council is implementing stringent measures to tackle illegal dumping.
“We are committed to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our city,” Boseiwaqa added.
“Unauthorized rubbish dumping not only affects the appearance of our community but also poses health and environmental risks. We are taking decisive action to address this issue and encourage residents to report any suspicious activity.”
Effective immediately, the Council will enforce strict penalties on individuals caught in the act of unauthorized rubbish disposal.
Mr Boseiwaqa is urging the public to cooperate by adhering to waste disposal regulations and reporting illegal dumping incidents to the appropriate authorities.
Together, we can keep Suva clean and beautiful for everyone.
