August 1, 2024The Suva City Council is urging local businesses, particularly restaurants, to ensure compliance with the Food Safety Act 2003 in their daily operations.
Following inspections by Council Health Inspectors, some restaurants in the city were found to be operating under unsanitary and unhygienic conditions during food preparations.
Non-compliance with this Act will prompt the Council to issue order of cessation of operations to the establishments involved.
In emphasizing the gravity of adhering to food safety regulations, Suva City Council Acting CEO Mr Tevita Boseiwaqa stressed such measures are crucial for ensuring that food is prepared and served under hygienic conditions, thereby safeguarding consumer health.
Moving forward, Mr Boseiwaqa reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to vigilant monitoring of food establishments, promising to enforce necessary actions against any violations.
“I am deeply concerned by the blatant disregard for public health and food safety standards exhibited by these establishment. The Suva City Council will not accommodate such negligence in food preparation. Our priority is the well-being of our community, and we will enforce strict compliance with food safety regulations to ensure the highest standards of hygiene are maintained,” Mr Boseiwaqa said.
